An earthquake occurred off the coast of Papua New Guinea. This was reported by TASS According to data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

According to seismologists, the epicenter of the earthquake was 113 km northwest of the city of Rabaul, which has a population of about 8 thousand. The source of the tremors was at a depth of 10 kilometers. The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.9.

No official information was given about the destruction and casualties. Additionally, local authorities did not announce a tsunami threat.
