Cepsa begins commercialization of 100% renewable diesel for professional customers

cepsa started supplying 100% renewable diesel (HVO) to professional customersIt offers sustainable solutions tailored to their needs, both at its own service stations and at the direct facilities of many companies, in order to contribute to the decarbonization of their activities.

Energy currently markets this second-generation biofuel to professional customers (haulers, fleets, etc.) It will be available at a service station in Madrid (located on the A-3 motorway, near the Vallecas neighbourhood) and in three other strategic locations before the end of the year. The company’s goal in 2024 is to supply renewable diesel. on 20 stations of the networkIt is located in the main corridors and logistics nodes of the country.

Cedric Vigneau, Cepsa Fleets and CRT Director, expressed his satisfaction with reaching this new milestone and emphasized: “As Cepsa, we continue to support sustainable mobility and we want to move towards the future by creating a tangible impact today. “We will therefore supply HVO in strategic locations to our professional customers, who we want to help progress in decarbonising their operations by offering this high-quality biofuel.”

Similarly, Cepsa Direct Sales Director José Emiliano Pardo emphasized: “We supply HVO directly to land transport and service companies, among others. Accompanying our customers in their processes decarbonization. “We continue to promote sustainable mobility as one of the main axes of the ‘Positive Action’ strategy.”

The company has begun to see interest in this renewable fuel from a number of customers, including large logistics companies and companies from different industries. HVO achieves the following results throughout its life cycle (from production to use): Reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% Compared to conventional fuels. Additionally, the chemical composition of this biofuel is similar to traditional fossil fuels used in existing diesel engines, so it does not require any changes to them or to the storage and distribution infrastructure.

Cepsa supports the circular economy by producing this second-generation biofuel from organic waste such as used cooking oils or agricultural waste at the La Rábida Energy Park (Huelva). Likewise, in order to guarantee supply to land, sea and air transport customers, Cepsa, together with Bio-Oils, will develop the largest second-generation biofuel plant in Southern Europe with an investment of up to 1 billion euros. . This facility, which will be operational in 2026 in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva), will have a flexible production capacity of 500,000 tons of renewable diesel and SAF.

After successfully carrying out several tests using renewable biofuels in air, sea and rail transport, the success of this project represents a new advance in Cepsa’s goal of facilitating the decarbonisation of heavy transport through the production of green molecules. As the company determines in its ‘Positive Action’ strategy, A reference for energy transition and leadership in Spain and Portugal in 2030 renewable fuel production with an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tons and green hydrogen production with an electrolysis capacity of 2 GW. Likewise, it is developing a large network of ultra-fast chargers at service stations in both countries.
