Russian law enforcement is conducting a witness survey of “acting of a corrupt nature” by Anatoly Chubais, the former head of Rosnano, and his entourage. This was reported to TASS by a source in the power structures of the Russian Federation.
“Various units of Russia’s law enforcement are interviewing possible witnesses and examining the documents received before the check for signs of a crime,” the agency’s source said.
According to TASS, the source did not specify what kind of corruption he was referring to “in the interest of the investigation”.
At the time of publication, there was no official comment from journalists.
Three days ago, on May 28, TASS announced that information on the alleged European bank accounts of Chubais, who left Russia, will be confirmed soon.
“The amount of foreign currency on them could reach several billion,” the agency’s source said. Again, for the benefit of the investigation, the TASS interlocutor did not specify which European banks Chubais could store “impressive amounts, possibly illegally obtained”.
According to the latest TASS data – unofficial – Anatoly Chubais is in Italy. He does not plan to return to Russia to testify in the event of the theft of property for 70 million rubles. The former senior executive left Russia in a private jet via Turkey, shortly after the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. On May 6, the Chubais representative denied reports that Rosnano’s former president was in Italy.
“Anatoly Chubais has not visited Italy in recent months, he does not have and never has a private plane or foreign real estate in any country in the world. Recently, Anatoly Borisovich visited Turkey and then Israel, discussing issues of cooperation with several universities.
At the same time, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin has no desire or opportunity to follow the fate of Chubais.
“It is known to be abroad. We have [в администрации президента РФ] It’s not working,” said the official.
On March 25, Vladimir Putin, by decree, dismissed Chubais from the post of special representative for relations with international organizations for the achievement of sustainable development goals.
In addition, Chubais, who left Russia, resigned from the board of directors of AFK Sistema and portfolio company Elektrozavod, while continuing his duty as co-chairman of the Renewable Energy Development Association.
In mid-April, the current head of Rosnano, Sergei Kulikov, applied to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation with a request to control the work of the company during the years when it was headed by Anatoly Chubais. According to Kulikov, at some point the company’s debts exceeded the value of its assets and signs of bankruptcy appeared. In addition, Rosnano paid dividends to the government twice, although the amount of net assets is less than the authorized capital.
