The Tula Oktava plant, which is part of RT-Capital (Rostec company), is currently developing a lighter version of the Obereg body armor, which is not inferior to the base model. Pavlenko noted that the second version of the vest is in the final stage of development and there are some changes in the configuration and other plates belonging to the same Br5 protection class. However, its weight is about 10 kilograms and it is 2 kg lighter. Pavlenko explained that this will definitely be positively received by the fighters, because every kilogram has a significant impact on the spine and the entire body, especially after a few hours of use.
The factory manager also noted that the protective properties of the new bulletproof vests will not be impaired.
Initially, it was announced that the weight of Obereg body armor, which can withstand a direct hit from B-32 armor-piercing bullets, is 11.7 kg, and its production will begin at the Oktava plant in April. The vest’s chest armor plate provides protection class Br5 and consists of high molecular plastic as well as ceramic plates that absorb the kinetic energy of the bullet. The side sections have protection class Br1 but can be replaced with protection Br3 upon customer request.
Within the scope of the “Our Crash” project, products produced by Rostec enterprises will be subjected to crash tests to check their durability. The government agency states that extreme conditions will be created for testing products.
