Scientists from the University of Colorado found that breastfeeding is associated with lower body fat percentage in nine-year-olds. Study presented at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Hamburg.
Doctors analyzed data from more than 700 mother-child pairs. At the start of the study, the average age of the mothers was 29 and 51% of the babies were boys. Children who were breastfed for at least six months had 3.5% less body fat by age nine than children who were not breastfed for six months. Infants’ diet was not associated with differences in body fat at age five. The child’s age at initiation of complementary feeding was not significantly associated with childhood fat mass percentage.
The analysis also found that babies who started drinking soda before 18 months had, on average, about 7.8% more body fat at age nine than babies who started drinking soda at 18 months or older.
This discovery supports the theory that feeding method in infancy affects the risk of obesity later in life.
Previous scientists I learnedIt was stated that the substances contained in plastic may increase the risk of autism.
