A woman from Perth, Australia, became pregnant while pregnant: the first conception occurred naturally, the second as a result of in vitro fertilization (IVF). This was reported by ABC News.
An Australian couple turned to assisted reproductive technology after being told they were unlikely to conceive naturally. A few years ago David Searle was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had his sperm frozen before undergoing chemotherapy. He and his wife, Sandra Searle, became parents twice, thanks to in vitro fertilization. They wanted a third child, consulted doctors and started in vitro fertilization treatment.
During a medical examination, the woman was found to have abnormally high hormone levels. During the scan, doctors discovered that a seven- to eight-week-old fetus was present in the womb, as well as another embryo, 18 days younger than the first. As it turned out, the first was conceived naturally, and the second as a result of IVF. This “twin pregnancy” condition is called superfetation, and ten cases have been reported worldwide.
The woman noted that the third pregnancy was especially difficult. However, children of different sexes were born healthy on the same day, although the girl was actually 18 days older than the boy, meaning one child was born full-term and the other premature. This is noticeable in their height and weight: the boy weighed only two kilograms at birth, and the girl weighed three kilograms.
doctors before reported The purple swelling on the baby’s head could be a swelling in the brain.
