Employees of the Guatemalan Ministry of Internal Affairs seized from the Supreme Electoral Court the protocols and ballot papers from the last presidential election won by centre-left Bernardo Arevalo. This was reported by Prensa Libre.
The publication claims that representatives of the election commission tried to interfere with the procedure, and employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs used force against them.
The country’s elected president said the ministry’s actions showed that the possibility of a coup remained in the country.
Before that, Bernardo Arevalo, representative of the center-left movement “Seed” to win Victory was achieved in the second round of the presidential elections in Guatemala, with 59 percent of the votes.
