According to media reports, the largest concentration of giant jellyfish is seen among holidaymakers in the Foça region of Izmir. For this reason, the flow of tourists to the regional center decreased by 70 percent in late August and September. The beaches in the regional center are empty, but you can safely swim in the bays four to five kilometers from Foça, as eyewitnesses say – there is only one jellyfish there.
Tourism business owner Sebahattin Karaca, in his interview with the publication, noted that he suffered heavy losses due to jellyfish invasion. According to the man, seasonal cnidarian accumulation occurs every year in Foça, but this season lasts especially long. It is unknown what this is connected with. The man hopes scientists will find the cause soon.
