An international team of scientists has discovered a previously unknown virus that can infect bacteria in the Mariana Trench. This was stated in a scientific journal Microbiology Spectrum.
The new virus, identified as vB_HmeY_H4907, was found at a depth of 8900 meters.
Scientists found that the discovered virus affects Halomonas bacteria, which are often found in sediments in the deep sea and underwater geysers. It penetrates the host and multiplies, but does not usually kill the bacterial cell. As the cell divides, viral genetic material is copied and transferred.
Currently, vB_HmeY_H4907 is the deepest of all known bacteriophages living in the World Ocean.
Genomic analysis of the new virus shows that it is widespread.
Last week recognizedHe said the World Health Organization had put pressure on China and demanded more information from its leaders about the origin of the coronavirus infection. WHO plans to send its own team to China to conduct another investigation.
