Izvestia: Russia may impose surcharges for air passengers

In Russia, an additional fee may appear to those who buy air tickets, whose funds will be sent to the reserve fund to support passengers. The newspaper reports “News” according to market sources.

According to the publication, the Ministry of Transport, together with TCH JSC (formerly Transport Clearing House) and the state company Rostec, is discussing the creation of a similar reserve fund in Russia, which will be used to fulfill the obligations of carriers to passengers in case of force majeure.

TCH Deputy Chairman Alexei Shubenkov’s letter to the Ministry of Transport states that the introduction of the fee will not lead to an increase in airfare prices, as it will be “created through the redistribution of fees set by the current legislation”. of the Russian Federation.”

Sources of Izvestia suggest that the amount of payment can be from 70 to 250 rubles per flight.
