UN awards Zimambian soldier as 2021 Gender Advocate of the Year

The United Nations (UN) has named Zimbabwe Major Winnet Gerard as its 2021 Military Gender Advocate. UN official website.

“The United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award, established in 2016, recognizes the commitment and efforts of an individual military peacekeeper to advance the principles of United Nations Security Resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security as set forth by leaders. and force commanders are conducting United Nations operations for the sake of peace,” the statement said.

It was noted that Major Gerare spoke about gender equality in the ranks of the peacekeepers and the participation of women in patrols. Zharare also successfully encouraged men and women to work together in agriculture and to build dams around the city of Bentiu to alleviate food shortages and prevent further displacement of the population.
