Russian Railways announced plans to expand its quantum network to the south and east of Russia 03:04

Russian Railways plans to expand backbone quantum network to Rostov-on-Don and Kazan, reports TASS With reference to Anatoly Khramtsov, Deputy Director General – Russian Railways Chief Engineer.

“As part of the development of quantum infrastructure in 2021-2022, Moscow – St. Petersburg and Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod backbone quantum network segments were created, while the total length of the quantum network amounted to 1,147 thousand km. In 2023, it is planned to create new sections of the Moscow-Voronezh-Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod-Arzamas-Kazan network,” Khramtsov said.

According to Khramtsov, in 2023 the quantization network in Russia will be increased to 1.4 thousand km.

Russian Railways in 2020 started Moscow – St. Petersburg to the implementation of the project to create a backbone quantum network with a length of about 800 km.

The quantum network improves the communication quality between subscribers while interacting with the urban fiber optic network.
