It was 7:45 pm on Wednesday, May 11, when a desperate father alerted CIMACC 091. son was drowning and that an object is preventing you from breathing. Several patrols from the State Citizens’ Security Brigade arrived at the home on Calle Escultor Félix Burriel, and without hesitation, a UPR agent maneuvered the plane. Heimlich first aid until the child throws the object out this prevented him from breathing and it turned into a jelly.
The representatives requested the cooperation of health services to assist and evaluate the health of the minor, confirming that: vital signs were correct. His father transferred him to the Mother and Child Hospital as per the protocol.
The Heimlich maneuver, or pressure on the abdomen, is a quick first aid procedure to unclog airways that may be blocked by pieces of food or any other object. It should only be used when airway obstruction is severe and life-threatening. If the choking person can talk, cough strongly or breathe adequately, no intervention is required.
