Hotel, hostel and hostel prices increased by 50% last year

Moderation of the general CPI

Overall, Spain’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell by 0.2% month-on-month in April due to cheaper electricity and gasoline, lowering its annual rate by 1.5 percentage points to 8.3%. These figures improve the data released by the institution at the end of last month, which pointed to an annual inflation of 8.4% and a monthly rate of -0.1% in April.

Despite the CPI continuing at unusually high levels, this indicator has not dropped this much in a month in over 35 years, especially since January 1987. Moreover, the fall in April is the first fall in inflation after two months. Strong increases in CPI kept CPI at 9.8% in March, its highest rate in nearly 37 years.

According to statistics, the main reason for the annual CPI falling to 8.3% is the decrease in electricity and fuel prices for personal vehicles.
