Scientists have discovered that energy drinks negatively affect muscles 14:40

Energy drinks can slow muscle recovery, according to new research from New York University scientists. The results of the work of specialists have been published. magazine scientific reports

Energy drinks have become extremely popular among teenagers and athletes. When consumed in excess, it has been found to cause sleep disorders, anxiety, irritability and even digestive disorders, irregular heartbeats, blood pressure, and contribute to obesity.

However, there is little data on how they affect the human musculoskeletal system. In their study, the researchers examined the response of mouse myoblasts (muscle cells) to eight different energy drinks (two products from four major brands, RedBull, Monster, Rockstar, and Celsius) to increase or decrease muscle recovery processes.

The results showed that energy drinks had a negative effect on cell viability. The most dangerous is what scientists call Celsius products, which may be due to twice the concentration of caffeine compared to other beverages. The safest drinks for muscle cells were Red Bull drinks, probably because of their higher vitamin B6 content.

“Additional research evidence points to the association of energy drinks with sudden serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack, heart rhythm disturbances, and sudden death. However, there is more to learn about energy drinks and their long-term health effects,” the authors concluded.
