On Monday (March 20th), parliamentarians rejected both votes presented to the government after the pension reform was introduced without a parliamentary vote. The first ballot was presented by the Libertés, Indépendants, Outre-mer et Territoires (LIOT) fraction, with 278 deputies voting in favour. However, the decision was not accepted because nine deputies spoke against it. The second ballot put forward by the National Rally party led by Marine Le Pen was also rejected: only 94 MPs voted in favour.
In the evening, thousands of demonstrators came to Place Vauban, setting fire to trash cans and throwing bottles and firecrackers at law enforcement.
