US Marines will receive portable guidance systems that can be 3D printed 02:06

Northrop Grumman has signed a contract to supply the US Marine Corps with a Next Generation Portable Guidance System (NGHTS). It has been reported tech blog.

According to the publication, the system provides greater pointing accuracy and can operate in the absence of GPS using an advanced rangefinder laser pointer.

NGHTS consists of three sensors: a color daytime thermal imager, a thermal imager for imaging in total darkness. A high-precision GPS receiver and an astronomical compass can determine the azimuth (angular measurement in a spherical coordinate system) for the direction of the target relative to NGHTS with accuracy in fractions of a degree.

Weighing less than 10 pounds, this device can operate in extreme environments including extreme temperatures, vibration, salt fog and extreme altitudes.

The newspaper also states that parts for NGHTS can be printed in the field on a 3D printer.

Previously reportedThat the contract command of the US Army has ordered a batch of JLTV armored vehicles from the American defense concern Oshkosh Defense for a total of $543 million.

The order includes a group of Oshkosh Defense JLTV armored vehicles for the US Army, US Marine Corps, US Air Force and US Navy.
