US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had a “rare phone call” with his Chinese counterpart, Wei Fenghe, to discuss the situation in Ukraine. This has been reported Bloomberg.
According to the agency, Fenghe urged the United States to refrain from using the Ukraine issue to “slander” China and to stop military provocations at sea.
In response, the United States urges China not to be an ally of Russia, as the military operation in Ukraine is “going away.”
According to the agency, Austin requested a phone call with Fenghe after several months of unsuccessful attempts to meet with Xu Qiliang, the highest-ranking officer in the Communist Party’s military establishment.
Former US State Department spokesman Ned Price declarationHe said China faces “serious consequences” if it supplies arms to Russia or helps circumvent sanctions.
Prior to that, Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said that the next target of anti-Russian sanctions is the military-industrial complex.
