“There are not enough people to help”: An Israeli doctor describes the situation in Turkey 03:08

Israeli doctor Leenor Attias, whose team rescued a 15-year-old girl from rubble in Kahramanmaras, said there was little reason to celebrate as the earthquake rescue operation in Turkey faces a severe shortage of people. writes about it CNN.

Attias noted: “There aren’t enough people to help in a situation like this – I’m talking about only one city, but the damage is so terrible that there aren’t enough rescuers and doctors in all of southern Turkey.” Attias works with United Hatzalah, a volunteer emergency medicine organization.

Even those who come to help cannot reach those in need. When the Attias team arrived at Gaziantep Airport, they reported that there were not enough trucks, fuel to the transport groups, and humanitarian aid to the areas most needed.

He said the humanitarian situation was dire, except for the urgent need to rescue survivors. Everywhere you look, there are collapsed buildings everywhere, and there’s more of them “every second”.

“People scream, people suffer, kids without parents. The smell is terrible. They make fire with mattresses, so now there are toxic fumes in the air, ”the Israeli woman explained the situation.

People urgently need shelter, blankets, clothing, shoes and food – but most of all they need water and electricity.

Team Attias sleeps outdoors in sleeping bags for safety reasons. Many buildings are unstable and tremors continue in the area.

“Yesterday we felt an earthquake while we were sleeping. We woke up with the earthquake, but we felt safe because we were in an open space, not next to buildings,” Attias explained.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declarationIt was reported that the death toll after the earthquake in the country increased to 9057. As the Turkish leader stated, 52 thousand 979 people were injured and 6 thousand 444 buildings were destroyed as a result of the tremors in Turkey.
