Today, Russian IT companies are actively recruiting developers in various fields. Alexander Sychev, partner of the Digital Economy League, told socialbites.ca which guidelines for admission in 2023 are the most promising.
According to the expert, the demand for niche specialists will increase in the next 5-10 years. That is, we need experts who will not only write code, but can also solve complex problems as part of the full digitization of a client from a particular industry. These workers, who have industry expertise as well as basic IT skills, have much more professional and career prospects.
“The development of IT solutions in the field of biotechnology, for example the creation of software for robotics, such as unmanned vehicles, is popular today. I think there will be a huge demand for Big Data in the next 10 years – diverse data sets are gaining enormous volumes and their processing and intended use is gaining increasing importance. Here too there is a trend towards an industry focus. You can’t be a Big Data expert for everything. Big data is now actively used by banks, retail and telecom.”
At the same time, the list of specialties that train IT specialists in Russian universities does not fully coincide with market realities.
“Unfortunately, until now, universities do not offer any advanced specialization related to any industry or specificity. In such a case, I think it is better to choose the most general direction. “Mathematics, information systems and technologies, computer science and computer technology and the like can be applied,” he said.
The specialist also recommended to independently take additional courses and start working in the profession as early as possible.
“You enter a university, as soon as you get used to it, you sign up for training courses – there are many offers from different platforms – and you try to do an internship at an IT company. From the internship you already find a job and you will learn how everything works in practice. When you start your professional path, it is important to be in context, to follow the trends,” the expert concluded.
