According to the decree, the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship and recognizing a child under 14 years old as a citizen of the Russian Federation was approved.
In addition, the procedure for filing and registering applications for “unwillingness to become a citizen of Ukraine” was approved.
Previously, the State Duma introduced a bill providing for the termination of Ukrainian citizenship from the date of submission of the relevant application to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The draft law has been published in the Duma electronic database.
From the explanatory note it becomes clear that after the admission of new territories to the Russian Federation, the number of Russians with Ukrainian citizenship increased. At the same time, these citizens cannot renounce Ukrainian citizenship for reasons beyond their control.
