In 2022, Russia faced the largest information attack in history – the number of fakes reached 3.7 thousand, and the number of mentions of them exceeded 9.3 million, so the number of false information on the Internet increased sixfold compared to last year. Such figures were revealed by experts who met to discuss ways to prevent the spread of counterfeit products. A roundtable on this topic was held at MIA “Russia Today”.
Vladimir Tabak, Director General of ANO Dialog Regions and ANO Dialog, emphasized that the most popular frauds are staged or archival photos and videos, fake documents and deliberate distortions of information.
According to Tabak, fakes are becoming more and more believable, which blurs the line of user trust in communication channels.
He added that this year Dialog launched the Noodles Media fact-checking platform, which provides qualified evaluation of counterfeit products by experts, leading media and universities. Currently, more than 85,000 requests have been received to check broadcasts and messages.
“We face a threat not only to information but also to national security when the consolidation of the state and civil society is required,” Tabak said.
Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov talked about ways to ensure information stability at the regional level. The topic head has launched a new format – it is broadcast live on social networks every day and answers 10 popular questions from residents. According to him, the key area of work in a crisis situation is direct communication with citizens.
Tatyana Matveeva, Head of the Department for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies and Communication Infrastructure of the President of Russia, noted that society began to notice this phenomenon and carefully interact with fake information.
“Media and online communities need to understand their responsibilities and reach a broad audience with verified data. Today, the regulation of the purity of the agenda, of course, not in terms of censorship, ”says Ekaterina Larina, director of the department for the development of mass media and international cooperation at the Russian Ministry of Digital Development.
