At the end of the opening act, a Renaissance music concert will be performed by the Contrapuntum group in the cistern room.
Josep Gosalbes de Cunedo was a Latin Renaissance poet, physician, and 16th-century writer from Alicante who participated in military expeditions. He was successful in life and had local repercussions in the 17th and 18th centuries, but his memory faded both in academia and in the popular sphere of Alicante. All of his works are written in Latin, are very comprehensive, cultured and rich, and deserve the attention of readers in general. For several years, Antoni Biosca, a professor of Latin Philology at the University of Alicante, has been working on restoring his memory as well as editing and translating his work.
Self-produced and coordinated by the Municipal Department of Integrative Heritage, the exhibition consists of thirteen panels with accompanying images written by Professor Biosca. The texts are in Spanish and Valencian. At the end of each panel is a short excerpt from Gosalbes’ work that refers to the topic covered in the panel. The exhibition is enriched with a variety of objects, such as books and original manuscripts from the 16th century (on loan from the exhibition curator), an audio-visual work or specifically a commissioned model of the ship “San Mateo” in which it is located. sailed, and Gosalbes, King II. He fought within the framework of Felipe’s Invincible Navy.
