Pavel Danilin, Director of the Center for Political Analysis and Social Studies, commented on former German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s statement that the Minsk agreements were signed to give Ukraine time and to strengthen.
“This statement clearly shows that Germany and France were not initially interested in the implementation of the Minsk agreements. They were there to deceive Russia. Their main purpose was not to help the people living in Donbass, but to encourage the militarization of Ukraine, to provoke it to move from the Russian world towards Nazism. This was the main essence of Angela Merkel’s actions. It’s nice that he openly admits that. We should have no doubt, that was the main purpose – to provoke further development of the conflict, ”she said.
In response, Oleg Matveychev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, described Merkel’s statement as a major blunder.
“Direct questions were asked, he just dodges what he didn’t say as best he could to let a kind of mist come in. But in the end he still babbled, uttering a sentence after which, most likely, a certain scandal would arise, ”the statement said.
According to her, Merkel simply admitted in her statement that the Minsk agreements were made only to give Ukraine time to prepare.
Matveychev also recalled that the Minsk agreements were signed after the complete defeat of the Ukrainian army.
“Then there was no way to resist. Their task was to give Ukraine time, of course, to arm itself. The fact that this is indeed the case validates all subsequent implementations. We remember that the Minsk agreements were not implemented in the slightest, and at the same time, for 8 years, accusations were made of Russia’s non-compliance with the Minsk agreements. Although Russia is not a party to these agreements, it was a guarantor like France or Germany.
The MP stressed that Merkel’s statement once again proved that the West cannot be trusted and that all agreements are worthless.
Previously reportedFormer Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, said in an interview with Die Zeit newspaper that the Minsk agreements were signed to “give time for Ukraine” and that this made the country stronger.
“The 2014 Minsk agreements were an attempt to give Ukraine time. As can be seen today, he also used this time to become stronger. Merkel said that the 2014-2015 Ukraine is not modern Ukraine.
