The future of hotels: This is the first capsule hotel in Malaga

Defeated or die. Over the years, technology has entered our lives permanently. This innovation and avant-garde is also revolutionizing the hotel industry in Malaga. You can find accommodation suitable for all tastes in the province. Now comes a new model: the capsule hotel. under the name Futurotel, this hotel has 40 capsule roomsoffers all the comforts of a traditional room. Capsule hotels started coming to Spain after the pandemic, but they’re slowly starting to land in a few major cities. Again it may seem like a new concept Europethis form of accommodation was born in Japan in 1977. It is possible to enter this hotel of the future just meters from La Malagueta beach. Located on Maestranza street, this is a “a concept based on bringing accommodation to every budget”.

A model already established in other major cities such as Madrid or Valencia: “We did some market research because we had doubts about where to open the next one. In the end we chose Malaga because it’s great, the city has fashion”says Pedro Martín, advertising director of Futurotel.

In total, this hotel has 40 capsules spread over 5 chambers. Rooms reminiscent of the legendary Star Trek ship. In addition to being equipped with the latest technology. You must use a card to access each capsule; what we find in them a large bed, air conditioner and reading lamp. The hotel also offers a streaming package that includes platforms like Netflix or HBO.

The technology doesn’t end there, it extends to other areas, including smart bathrooms. Toilets are equipped with water jet cleaning and lid heating. Since the mirrors are smart, it is also possible to wash your hands while reading or watching videos.. It’s outside the rooms playground, private jacuzzi, kitchen and vending machines both drinks and hot food. Another of the services they offer is the personalization of your capsule. For example, they offer a mattress or other mattress depending on weight: “They also recommend some type of pillow, depending on what position you sleep in,” says Martín.

This type of accommodation “shocks” some people from Malaga: “But who repeats. Many are reluctant to associate it with sleeping in a niche, but they book the premises when they see it.” says Maria, a hotel employee. The opening in the capital, Malaga, was a complete success and the occupancy rates show it: “We’ve had multiple openings. 90% occupancy every month, some even stayed for two months,” says the worker.

For Martín, what attracts people the most is the “experience”: “This is more like a hostel with VIP experience and cheaper. In summer the price increases, but in other months it is around. between 40 and 60 euros per night”. Its target audience is usually young foreigners. “Treatment is something that gets repeated a lot in the comments they leave us,” María says. One thing Martín agrees: “We strive to provide a five-star service.”

Its next opening will be in Granada in mid-January.: “There will be nine rooms equipped with home automation”.
