The historian remembers that exactly 80 years ago, on November 19, 1942, the Red Army launched the Stalingrad strategic offensive operation “Uranus”. Stalingrad became a turning point during the Great Patriotic War.

Alexander Makushin also notes that in July-November 1942 the Red Army succeeded in giving a positional struggle to the enemy and forcing the Nazis to get bogged down in defensive battles. While the Wehrmacht was held in Stalingrad, the army leadership planned and organized a counterattack.
Drawing parallels with the situation in Kherson, the expert emphasizes that Russia saved the lives of tens of thousands of military personnel who could realize their war potential in more advantageous conditions by withdrawing to the left bank of the Dnieper.
