HSE calculates how many Russians may lose their jobs due to automation in the near future 12:08

Researchers at the HSE School of Economics have calculated that 11% of working Russians may lose their jobs due to computerization and digitization. This was reported to socialbites.ca at the university.

The authors of the study used data from the Rosstat Labor Force Survey and routine indices calculated for 427 occupations from the International Standard Classification of Occupations and compared them with the list of occupations of the All-Russian Classifier of Occupations. The routine index for a given position depends on how many tasks are solved by an employee belonging to the routine and non-routine groups (index takes values between -1 and 1).

Calculations showed that the vast majority of occupations (74%) had an index equal to zero, that is, non-routine tasks dominated. For 155 occupations (37%), it equals -1 (i.e. they only include performance of non-routine actions), and only 21 occupations (6%) have an index of 1. fall victim to automation

The most vulnerable category of employees are office workers. Their tasks are routine and require an average level of skill, so they can easily be represented as an algorithm. Industrial equipment operators and other semi-skilled and medium-skilled workers are also at risk.

For 56% of Russian workers, the risk of being displaced by machinery is low; managers and highly skilled professionals can feel most secure.
