A group of hobbyists known as Revolution Team has unveiled a trailer for an ambitious remake project. They plan to release a large-scale mod for GTA 4 that recreates the world of GTA Vice City, powered by the RAGE engine. The team promises not only to rebuild the original city and its missions but also to introduce a host of additional features that extend beyond the classic experience.
What the remake aims to deliver includes:
- An expanded city that builds on the Definitive Edition’s layout and visuals;
- Weapons updated to align with the Definitive Edition era in terms of balance and aesthetics;
- All cars seen in the Xbox version of the game, bringing a familiar vehicle roster to the project;
- Character and pedestrian models from the Xbox version, enhanced with higher-resolution textures for a crisper look;
- The full collection of original radio stations, preserving the nostalgic soundtrack lineup;
- Deleted scenes from the original game included for a more complete narrative experience;
- A design language faithful to the feel and atmosphere of the classic game;
- Neon lighting accents inspired by Vice City Stories, adding a distinct glow to city blocks;
- Various fixes and improvements to refine gameplay and visuals further.
The team notes that the official remaster uses the Unreal Engine solely for rendering, while the game’s physics still rely on RenderWare, a framework from more than two decades ago that includes dated mechanics and animations. Their project shifts to a newer generation engine. It isn’t the most recent release, but it is the only option that allows such a transformation while preserving the core storyline. That is the reason behind the working title Nextgen Edition.

The remake of GTA Vice City: Nextgen Edition is planned for release in 2024.
It is worth recalling that the original GTA Vice City debuted in 2002, and in 2021 Rockstar issued a bundle of remasters titled Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which included updated versions of Vice City, GTA3, and San Andreas.
Additionally, there has been chatter online about how long the story campaign for GTA 6 might run, a topic that has surfaced again this month.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree may be released in February
