All codes in Stray. Where to find and how to apply passwords
Not every four‑digit key is generated automatically. Players simply need to note the available codes and apply them at the right moment. Clues for doors and safes tend to be nearby, so players should pay attention and choose the correct combination.
Here is a complete list of passwords encountered in the game:
- Door code (chapter 2, exit from the apartment) – 3748.
- Code for the vault (chapter 4, slums, near the musician) – 1283.
- Door code (chapter 6, revisit the slum, secret door) – 2511.
- Code for the vault (chapter 10, shop in Midtown) – 8542.
In episode 4, there is a library safe that must be opened with the keys. To use the codes above, approach the object, press the action button, and enter the password. When the combination is correct, the door or safe opens immediately. The sections below explore the locations in more detail.
Chapter 2
The password to exit the apartment with the B‑12 drone appears as soon as a few batteries are used and a helpful floating companion joins. Start at the apartment terminal and move to the hallway. Enter the nearest room on the right and switch on the flashlight.
Climb the planks on the left. Move a paint can aside to reveal the code “3748” written on the board. Return to the hallway, reach the terminal, and enter the code to leave the apartment.
Chapter 4
The vault is easy to locate right after meeting the Guardian. Face the robot, then descend the stairs to the left. Pass the musician and reach a dead end with a metal safe on a hill of bags.
Search the storage area to obtain a hint containing a binary code. Robot Elliot helps decipher the input and reveal the correct password. Return to the Guardian, turn away, and descend the grand staircase.
Take the left path to Babushka. Two robed robots stand nearby. To the right of them, scratch the door and allow access to the passage toward the locked apartments. Ascend to the second floor, relay the message to Elliot, and watch the programmer decode the number pointing to the inscription “DUFER BAR.”
Back at the grand staircase, there is a bar on the corner. In the room, climb onto the bar and inspect the bright inscription “DUFER BAR.” Scrape the image above the neon sign to locate the correct code – “1283.”
Return to the safe and open it. Inside is a collectible – “8/8 Notes.”
Chapter 4
In this episode, another safe hides in plain sight. To access it, follow the rooftops past the bank and enter the library. Make your way to the farthest room, sift through the piles of books to the room bathed in purple light, and find Keys on the bed.
On the return trip, move through the next passage. Climb the books and jump down to unlock the path to the vault. Use the keys to open the safe and discover Doc’s notebook inside.
Chapter 6
After returning to the slums, a character named Momo will guide the cat from the bar to Doc and Seamus’ apartment. The inventor’s son has long hoped to find his father, and the main character will help the robot later by gaining access to Doc’s secret lab. The terminal that opens the secret room sits behind the left painting on the shelf.
The password hint hides behind the rightmost frame on the adjacent wall – “Time will tell.” This alludes to a clock that hangs above the sofa.
The player should read the hands to identify the correct combination – “2511.” Enter the code at the terminal and proceed to the secret room.
Chapter 10
When the cat reaches Midtown, after passing the black robot and climbing more stairs, the journey continues deeper into the city. A chapter title appears on screen as the hero moves forward and encounters a robot in a white coat. Climb onto the store counter and slip inside.
Behind the seller, inspect the wall where the password is written in reverse – “2458: edoC.” Climb to the top shelf and approach the vault.
