A notable update surfaced on social media as renowned developer Ed Boon shared fresh Mortal Kombat artwork. The new piece, crafted by Argentine artist Flavio Luccisano, centers on Shang Tsung, the formidable sorcerer from Earthrealm and one of the series’ most enduring antagonists. Shang Tsung has been a pillar of the franchise from its inception, continuing to feature through Mortal Kombat 11 and beyond.

The artwork offers a retrospective glimpse by presenting three distinct iterations of Shang Tsung drawn from Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Mortal Kombat 3. The face of the character in the piece is inspired by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the actor who portrayed the villain in the 1995 film adaptation, bridging the on-screen depiction with the game’s evolving visual canon.

Luccisano has previously shared another tribute to the series, a rendition of Scorpion rendered with Unreal Engine 5, which drew attention for its modern approach to a classic fighter. Ed Boon himself expressed appreciation for the artist’s reimagining of Sindel, underscoring the collaborative spirit that flavors the MK community’s ongoing dialogue around character design and nostalgia.
