How to turn a photo into anime using the Chinese neural network Me in Comics
The Me in Comics service is available free of charge in many regions. Since December 6, 2022, access to the service has been limited for certain countries and IP ranges, including the Russian Federation and others such as Singapore and Germany. When attempting to submit an image for processing from these IP ranges, users may see a message that the service is temporarily unavailable. (Originating context: service status notices reported by the developers.)
While a VPN can be used to reconnect, it should be activated before opening the link, otherwise the unavailable message may persist. The platform is optimized for mobile devices, and it may not display perfectly on wider screens. Some controls may be hidden on larger monitors, and adjusting the screen resolution can help. This behavior is intentional and part of the design experience.
How to use the Me in Comics Neural Network
- Open the link and agree to the license terms by signing in.
- Tap the large button at the bottom labeled Play now to open the image upload window.
- Select a suitable image and choose the option to download it if desired, works on phones and computers.
- Wait while the system processes the image.
- Save the resulting artwork by selecting the save option.
- Note the share option. It may function inconsistently, so sharing the result is not guaranteed.
- Return to the upload window by selecting the option to paint again, located near the save button.
What to do if Me in Comics doesn’t work even with a VPN
A Telegram bot is available that forwards requests to the Me in Comics server and generates an image. A drawback is that the bot often crops the image, especially affecting portraits by trimming part of the background.
How to use the Telegram bot:
- Begin by following the provided link and choosing Get started or sending a message to the bot.
- Subscribe to two third party channels. You may unsubscribe later, but doing so will stop the bot from working.
- Upload an image. On a phone there are no notes; on a computer, check the box to compress the image.
- After uploading the second image, a note appears stating that because the bot is free, inviting one friend grants unlimited access. The bot then provides a link.
- Invite a friend. The second person does not need to subscribe to the channels, simply message the bot Get started. This grants unrestricted use of the anime neural network features.
One downside of this option is occasional advertising links sent by the bot.
How to make anime from photo in Lensa app
For high quality avatars, the Lensa app offers a feature called Magic Avatars. The service is not free and there are no trial options available.
Using the Lens app
The Lens app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. To create a set of avatars, users should prepare 10–20 photos of the same person, preferably a selfie.
There are a few requirements:
- Keep to familiar faces rather than strangers.
- No need to upload full-resolution photos.
- Avoid monotone photos.
After uploading all photos, the user selects gender and styling options. Currently there are 10 styling options, and extra items can be deleted to refine the avatar set.
Users will then see three pricing options: 50 avatars for 240 units, 100 avatars for 360 units, or 200 avatars for 480 units.
Once payment is processed and a short wait passes, a batch of avatars becomes available for saving. Not every image will be perfect; choosing a larger pool increases the chance of matching preferences.
