Rockstar Games is confronting another major leak. Overnight, portions of Grand Theft Auto 5 code surfaced online, revealing elements tied to other studio projects as well.
A rumor circulating online claims the latest leak traces back to a separate incident last year involving an 18-year-old hacker who was deemed unstable. Although that individual was hospitalized, the repercussions continue to impact the company. The material now circulating allegedly had been kept private by various individuals prior to today.
Experts warn that the GTA Online experience could be significantly disrupted, since the exposed source code could be misused to mislead developers or undermine fair play. The leak reportedly includes early maps and prototypes, along with images from an initial game build.
As with other major releases in the series, there are claims that GTA 6 code has appeared in the same round of leaks, though many question the authenticity of these items. The 2018 dating of some data linked to the fifth installment has also been noted, with references to screenshots tied to RDR 3 and material related to Bully 2 appearing in discussion threads.
Rockstar previously disclosed that the GTA 6 leak inflicted a financial hit of around 5 million dollars. The current breach is expected to impose further costs, given its direct impact on the playability and integrity of GTA Online.
