Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a fresh chapter from Capcom, inviting players on a grand quest across enigmatic realms. Along the journey, players encounter a variety of tasks and fearsome beasts. Among the weapons discovered is a remarkable relic—the severed head of Medusa the Gorgon. This guide explains where to locate it and how to wield its power effectively.

Guides for Dragon’s Dogma 2

Why the Medusa head matters

The Gorgon Medusa Head is a unique artifact that can petrify enemies with a single strike, turning them to stone and often ending battles quickly. To obtain this artifact, one must defeat the Gorgon herself. Note that the head may lose effectiveness over time, so players should periodically return to the boss to reclaim power as needed.

There are two variants of Gorgon heads in the game:

  • Preserved head of the Gorgon. When placed near a lantern, it can turn foes to stone. If kept in inventory, it will soon become unusable, so it’s best kept in a chest or warehouse and carried only when necessary.
  • Decayed head of the Gorgon. It has no active properties and cannot be restored.

Where to find Medusa the Gorgon

Head to Nera Battal Gorge; a marker on the map indicates the exact location. Access to this area opens after completing the story mission People of the Burning Flame. While scouting for Medusa’s cave, let yourself be guided by the fate of petrified townsfolk you pass along the way.

How to sever Medusa’s head

Defeating Medusa isn’t enough to claim her head; a decisive strike to the neck is needed when she is near full health. A warrior wielding a heavy two‑handed sword or a thief with a dagger works best. It helps to empower the blade with magic electricity. Useful items during the fight include a soothing elixir to counter petrification and an antidote for toxins. A Stability Extract can prevent disease, and the Ring of Mobility grants immunity to petrification. If available, wearing the Ring of Mobility is recommended.

During the battle, aiming for a leap onto Medusa’s neck can create a critical moment. Avoid using special skills for this portion—simple, accurate blows with the blade are more than enough to land critical hits.

Medusa’s gaze can turn a hero to stone, so it’s wise to watch for red eyes and seek cover behind a column when necessary. If the ring is not worn, keep distance and shield yourself from direct eye contact.

Team coordination matters here. Allies should avoid dealing too much damage at once, allowing space for the decisive strike that severs the head. Pawns can be ordered to wait at a safe distance if needed.

After a few misses, Medusa will lower her head, signaling a window for a final, decisive strike with a sword or dagger to end the encounter instantly. Loot the body to collect the Gorgon head. If a preserved head isn’t present and only a decayed head remains, load a nearby save or wait approximately two weeks within the game. When the period passes, the battle with Medusa becomes available again.

Achievements and head-taking records

Cutting off Medusa’s head unlocks the achievement Head Off Your Shoulders. Store the trophy in a chest or warehouse and return after a two-week in-game interval. Then take the preserved head and revisit Medusa’s battlefield. Use the Petrify spell on the hair, lift the head, wave it, and gaze upon the Gorgon. If she turns to stone, the Eye for an Eye achievement is earned.
