Xiaomi chief executive Lei Jun and Redmi brand head Lu Weibing are reportedly testing the company’s first electric vehicle in Xinjiang, according to the XiaomiUI portal.
Multiple Xiaomi MS11 electric vehicles were spotted on Xinjiang roads, and on the same day Lei Jun and Lu Weibing shared images from the same region on their Weibo accounts. Observers online believe the top executives are personally involved in road testing of Xiaomi’s upcoming car.
A photo shared by Lei Jun shows several company leaders gathered together, alongside a poster stating the Chinese term for electric car, as noted by XiaomiUI.
It has been about two and a half years since Xiaomi’s announcement of its automotive ambitions, with Lei Jun first officially signaling the creation of a branded vehicle. The full public unveiling of the Xiaomi MS11 remains anticipated for the first quarter of 2024, with industry watchers speculating about seamless smartphone-to-vehicle integration that could enable new functionalities.
