Xiaomi Ends Updates for Redmi 8, 8A, K30 5G, Poco X2 — What It Means for Users

Xiaomi has broadened its list of devices that will no longer receive official support. Reports from a technology portal indicate that several models have reached their end of life in terms of software updates.

The end-of-life (EOL) roster includes four smartphones: Redmi 8, Redmi 8A, K30 5G, and Poco X2. These devices will stop getting MIUI shell updates, Android OS upgrades, and new security patches from Google and the manufacturer.

Meanwhile, Poco X2 users had anticipated an upgrade to MIUI 13. A MIUI 13 testing program for this model began in April 2022, but Xiaomi ultimately did not release the update due to bugs and related issues in the firmware.

Over time, devices that miss updates can become more vulnerable to exploits and intrusion compared with devices that receive timely patches and feature improvements from the vendor and Google.

Earlier reports mentioned that Xiaomi introduced its Redmi K60 flagship series, signaling a broader shift in the company’s product strategy and update approach for newer models.
