Apple has introduced swipe typing for the Russian keyboard on iPhone devices, expanding a feature that began in other languages long ago. The update is reported by iPhones.ru and reflects a broader effort to improve typing efficiency across languages on iOS.
The swipe-to-type capability first appeared with iOS 13, which launched in 2019. Since then, it rolled out to several language keyboards, including English. After nearly four years, Russian-speaking users can enjoy swipe typing on Apple devices without the need for third party keyboards.
Currently, the feature shows up in iOS 16.4 beta builds. Users can either install the beta to try it early or wait for a full public release to gain access automatically.
Because swipe typing has been part of iOS since its early versions, many Russians using iPhone models previously relied on alternative keyboards to access the feature. With the new native support, friends and colleagues can type faster with fewer mistakes right from the built in keyboard.
To enable the new swiping feature after installing iOS 16.4 beta, users should open Settings, go to General, and select Keyboards. In the keyboard list, locate the option for “Slide to enter” and toggle it on. This enables swipe input directly in the native Russian keyboard, streamlining daily messaging and document editing.
As the update rolled out, users noted improved speed and accuracy when composing messages, replying to emails, and drafting notes. The change is part of Apple’s ongoing push to broaden the usability of the iPhone keyboard for speakers of many languages and to reduce the friction of text input across regions.
Apple has continued to refine on-device typing experiences, including gesture-based input, predictive text, and adaptive corrections. The company’s goal is to offer a consistent, efficient typing experience for users around the world, with language support expanding over time. This move marks another step toward a more seamless, multilingual iPhone experience for Russian-speaking customers, aligning with user feedback and regional demand.
