In the days leading up to the official reveal, the Redmi A1, Xiaomi’s most affordable sub-brand smartphone, started to surface in online chatter. The Xiaomiui Portal shared a batch of renders and genuine-looking photographs of what appears to be a budget-focused device.

Early information suggests two variants will be announced: Redmi A1 and Redmi A1+. The key difference between the two is expected to be the presence of a fingerprint sensor on the A1+ model, setting it apart from the baseline A1.

Specs circulating for the Redmi A1 point to a 6.52-inch TFT display with HD+ resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. Even with a price tag projected to be under $100, roughly less than 6,000 rubles, the phone reportedly packs a dual camera setup on the rear consisting of an 8 MP main sensor and a 2 MP secondary camera, complemented by a 5 MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.

Both Redmi A1 variants are said to run on the MediaTek Helio A22 processor, backed by a sizable 5,000 mAh battery. The included charger is expected to be a modest 10W unit. A leaked store image also suggested that configurations may begin with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage for the Redmi A1, with potential room for additional microSD expansion in certain markets.

On the software front, the devices are anticipated to ship with a lightweight MiUI Lite skin or a clean Android experience specifically optimized for budget devices, aimed at keeping the user interface smooth on entry-level hardware.

The official launch is scheduled for September 6 in India, where Xiaomi appears to be targeting price-conscious shoppers with a compelling entry-point device. Information about a release window for Russia or pricing in that market has not been disclosed publicly, leaving room for regional variations in availability and configuration.

Meanwhile, reports from socialbites.ca have hinted that in September, gaming-centric models, the Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro, may also arrive in Russia, signaling ongoing expansion in key regional markets for Xiaomi’s broader smartphone lineup.

It’s worth noting that industry insiders and enthusiasts have been tracking these disclosures closely, with the general consensus pointing to a strategic push for ultra-budget smartphones that deliver essential performance and competitive software experiences without the premium surcharge found on higher-end devices. The Redmi A1 series, in particular, is positioned to appeal to first-time smartphone buyers, cost-conscious families, and users looking to upgrade from older feature phones.
