Android Authority has published the first look at the Pixel Fold 2, the next Google foldable with a flexible display and several other details about the device. GizmoChina is noted as a source for some of these early observations.
While Google has not confirmed the exact dimensions of the Pixel Fold 2, Android Authority reports that the internal display is square in shape. That suggests the Fold 2 could adopt a slightly narrower profile compared to its predecessor.
Since the Pixel 6 lineup debuted in 2021, Google has favored a horizontal camera bar design. An early render of the Fold 2 indicates a camera island positioned in the upper left corner, diverging from prior designs. Supposedly, the handset will mount four cameras: the main sensor, an ultra-wide lens, a telephoto module, and a fourth sensor whose purpose remains unspecified.
The overall silhouette of the Pixel Fold 2 is expected to echo the look of the previous generation, though visual cues might borrow from rumored Pixel 9 styling. As with the outer display, the inner panel is said to feature rounded corners and a camera cutout near the upper right area. The build is described as having an aluminum frame and a slimmer chassis.
From a hardware perspective, rumors point to a Tensor G3 or G4 chipset powering the device, along with 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, with Google’s Pixel AI assistant integrated in the software experience.
Speculation places the Pixel Fold 2’s launch in the second half of 2024, positioning it as a late-year release in Google’s foldable lineup.
Meanwhile, Motorola has been rolling out budget-focused smartwatches, highlighting a contrasting midrange strategy in the Android ecosystem.
