The NICA Collider: Russia’s Milestone in Nuclear Research
Vladimir Putin highlighted the achievement of Russia with the domestically produced Nuclotron-based Ion Collider Facility, better known as NICA. He called the collider complex the world’s largest accelerator for protons and heavy ions, a project that places Russia at the forefront of high-energy physics research. His remarks came during a gathering with leading scientists in Dubna, located in the Moscow Region, where he spoke of national pride in this scientific milestone.
In his address, the president expressed strong confidence that the development will reach a successful completion. He emphasized that the research conducted under extreme conditions through the examination of nuclear materials could yield important insights and drive further technological advances in the field.
Prior to these comments, Putin visited the Joint Nuclear Research Institute in Dubna and observed the initiation of the NICA accelerator complex. He described this launch as a crucial milestone within the broader megascience project, underscoring its significance for long-term scientific aims and international collaboration.
Earlier, Andrei Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow Region, announced that the collider’s launch occurred during a meeting of the Council of Regions of Russia and Uzbekistan, which was attended by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The event underscored the cooperative nature of large-scale scientific endeavors that cross national borders and bring together diverse talents and resources.
Putin reiterated that Russia remains open to international scientific cooperation. The statement reflected a broader aim to foster partnerships, share expertise, and invite global participation in advanced research infrastructure that can benefit science and technology sectors worldwide.
