Interest in neural networks has surged across Russia, with mobile traffic for AI-powered services tripling over the year and audiences expanding by more than threefold. This growth was disclosed by the mobile operator Yota through its press service. Analysts surveyed the range of Russian offerings that use neural networks to generate images, text, or music, highlighting shifting usage patterns and consumer preferences that also resonate with audiences in Canada and the United States. The standout project remains Masterpiece, launched in April 2023. In the six months since its debut, this neural network consumed twice as many gigabytes as Kandinsky, the second most popular AI service for visual content creation, which itself has seen a 2.5-fold rise in internet traffic since the start of the year. Among the most active platforms, Mubert stands out for its ability to generate music on demand. Since the start of the year, mobile data usage within Mubert has dropped by about 63 percent, while two other audio track generators based on neural networks—Aiva and Soundraw—also rank high in user engagement within the top five. The evolving mix of visual and audio AI tools reflects broader trends in digital creativity, including in North American markets where similar platforms are expanding access to on-demand content. In the comparison of January to October of the previous year with the current period, traffic to artificial intelligence services grew by a factor of 3.5. The largest segments of users in Russia are individuals aged 36 to 45, who account for about 32 percent of the audience, followed closely by those aged 26 to 35 with roughly 31 percent. Users aged 46 to 55 make up around 18 percent and are the third-largest group. This age distribution mirrors a broad receptivity to AI tools across adult demographics and underscores opportunities for services targeting mature professional audiences in Canada and the United States as well. Neural networks appear to be gaining traction especially among younger audiences, including those in the 14 to 21 range. In 2023, the number of users in this cohort rose by elevenfold. On average, they tend to consume more data per month on AI services than other groups. Men currently represent a larger share of the user base, comprising about 59 percent, with women making up the rest. Typical monthly engagement for Russians using AI websites approaches nearly an hour per subscriber. The trend toward high-frequency use among younger groups is a notable signal for creators and platforms seeking to grow in North American markets as well. Source: Yota press service.

Historical notes mention early explorations in neural networks, including attempts to imitate brain activity using living tissue. These early experiments laid the groundwork for today’s commercial and consumer AI services, which continue to evolve rapidly across regions including the Americas. Source: Yota press service.
