A new virtual pet feature is being added to Xiaomi’s MIUI 14 firmware, bringing a playful animated companion to the user experience. The standout element is a cat-shaped widget that can wander across the screen, curl up to sleep, and prompt user interaction. This digital pet acts as a modern nod to the Tamagotchi craze, a beloved Japanese toy that first appeared in 1996 and continues to influence how people engage with on-screen companions today.
MIUI 14 made its initial appearance in China on December 11, 2022, aligning with Xiaomi’s global unveiling. The initial devices to ship with MIUI 14 out of the box included models from the Xiaomi 13 series, delivering a fresh software experience alongside new hardware features. Since then, the global rollout of MIUI 14 has continued, with ongoing support and updates across a broad range of Xiaomi and Redmi devices. The lineup that gained continued compatibility includes many models in the Xiaomi 12 family, the Xiaomi 13 family, and several Redmi and POCO devices, reflecting Xiaomi’s wide ecosystem and ongoing commitment to software improvements across its hardware portfolio.
In related demonstrations, the Xiaomi teams highlighted flagship models equipped with high-contrast AMOLED displays, integrated in-display fingerprint sensors, and front cameras positioned in contemporary cutouts with modern design aesthetics. These devices were shown offering smooth visuals at high refresh rates, with HDR color support and vivid brightness performance, underscoring Xiaomi’s emphasis on premium display technology and user experience as MIUI evolves in step with hardware capabilities.
