Purism Introduces Liberty Phone with All-American Build
A U.S. based company unveils the Liberty Phone, a smartphone promoted as fully produced in the United States. The announcement comes from the Liliputing edition and emphasizes domestic manufacturing across both hardware and software components.
The Liberty Phone sports a 5.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels. Power comes from the NXP i.MX 8M processor, a chip first released in 2017. It features four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked up to 1.5 GHz, paired with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
Wireless and connectivity specs include support for Wi-Fi 4, Bluetooth 4, and LTE. The device is powered by a 4500 mAh battery and offers fast charging via USB 3.0 Type-C. A 3.5 mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot supporting up to 2 TB are included for flexible use.
Liberty Phone runs PureOS, a Linux-based operating system developed in-house. The manufacturer notes that users may install other operating systems from the Linux family on the device if they choose.
Purism frames the all-American origin as the defining feature of the Liberty Phone. The company claims that both software and electronic components are produced in the United States, a stance intended to reduce exposure to supply chain risks.
The Liberty Phone is currently available for purchase in the United States. The asking price is around 2.2 thousand dollars, a premium compared with the latest iPhone models and the top Samsung flagships.
