The iPhone 17 Pro Max, anticipated in 2025, is rumored to feature three cameras, each delivering 48 megapixels. This information comes from Portal, which cites MacRumors and a trusted insider and analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, as its source.
According to the report, the iPhone 17 Pro Max would include a 48MP periscope telephoto lens, making it the first Apple smartphone to house a 48MP sensor across all three rear cameras. By comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro introduced a 48MP main camera, while the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to adopt a 48MP ultra-wide module.
There is also uncertainty regarding whether the standard iPhone 17 Pro will receive a similar telephoto capability. The analyst notes that this particular lens might remain exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max and could appear on the iPhone 18 Pro in the future.
Apple’s upcoming reveal is still set to showcase the iPhone 16 series, scheduled for September 2024. Rumors suggest design tweaks for the base model, including a redesigned camera module and a larger 6.3-inch display (up from 6.1 inches), while the Pro Max is expected to sport a 6.9-inch screen (up from 6.7 inches). Additionally, the entire lineup is said to gain a new Capture Button intended to launch the camera app with a single press.
