iPhone users are already testing the new iOS 17 and are finding features that weren’t highlighted during Apple’s keynote. One notable addition is a timer that appears on the App Store page, showing the remaining time until an app finishes downloading.
The countdown shows up on the app’s page in the App Store as soon as the download starts. It sits just beneath the progress pie chart, which gives a rough visual of the download status.
In the past, users had little information about how long a download would take. The only visible cue was the rotating ring animation that signaled activity. Now, the new timer offers a concrete estimate, making the process clearer and less guessing-based.
iOS 17 was unveiled on June 5 as part of the WWDC23 keynote. In the days that followed, Apple typically opened access to beta versions of the operating system. This time, the beta began rolling out not only to developers but also to general iPhone users in 2023, and the same pattern extended to iPadOS 17 for tablets.
Earlier reports noted that messaging apps were getting notable enhancements as well. For instance, WhatsApp introduced a feature that allows sending photos with reduced compression, preserving more image quality during transmission. This aligns with a broader push toward smoother, more efficient mobile experiences across popular apps.
