The government in India has revised its stance on building 5G networks in the current approach. Now, only local Indian providers will handle the installation work.

In the past, India relied on Chinese and European suppliers for 5G infrastructure. Officials expected national firms such as Shyam VNL, HFCL, and the TCS-Tejas group to take the lead. There is also concern within the authorities about potential data leakage associated with 5G telecom equipment.

Officials indicate that a substantial investment is planned for 5G development, with a projected range of 20 to 30 billion dollars over the next two to three years. There is a clear warning that employing Chinese or European technologies by local companies could invite penalties from the government.

Separately, a former rector of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology suggested that the progression to 6G in Russia cannot be achieved without implementing 5G first.
