In March 2023, Valve disclosed the hardware data from Steam users, and a new leader emerged in the ranking of the most popular video cards: Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060. This card overtook others to become the top choice among gamers, its market share leaping from 4.21 percent to 10.4 percent after a strong surge in demand.

The RTX 3060 advanced to the front while the RTX 2060 settled into second place with a share of 7.89 percent, reflecting a notable monthly increase of 3.41 percentage points. The shift highlights a broader trend toward the latest mainstream GPUs that deliver solid 1080p to 1440p performance for a wide range of titles on Steam.

From the software side, Windows 10 remained the dominant operating system among Steam players, capturing 73.95 percent of the user base, marking an increase of 11.62 percentage points within the month. Windows 11 saw a drop, finishing March with a 22.41 percent share, which represents a contraction of 9.65 percentage points. The industry trend shows an ongoing migration to newer Windows versions, yet a substantial portion of the gaming community continues to run Windows 10.

On the hardware side, Nvidia graphics cards continued to lead Steam usage, accounting for 82.63 percent of the graphics solutions employed by the platform’s users. AMD held a 10.62 percent share, while Intel graphics cards represented 6.33 percent. This distribution underscores Nvidia’s ongoing dominance in the consumer GPU segment among Steam players.

Processor usage told a different story. Intel processors dominated the Steam ecosystem with a 74.46 percent share, followed by AMD at 25.54 percent. The data point paints a picture of a market where Nvidia graphics cards are paired with a broad range of CPUs, but Intel remains the clear leader in processor adoption among Steam users.

Earlier notes indicated Nvidia had begun addressing the appearance of counterfeit video cards manufactured in China under its brand. This response aligns with broader efforts to protect brand integrity and ensure that buyers receive genuine Nvidia hardware. [Source: Valve Steam Hardware & Software Survey, March 2023]
