Apple is moving toward OLED displays across nearly all its devices within the next six years, according to ET News. The report states that by 2027 OLED versions of the iPad mini, iPad Air, iPad Pro, and the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air lines will join the lineup. At present OLED screens are only on the iPhone series and Apple Watch.

The rollout begins with two iPad Pro models, 11 inches and 12.9 inches, expected in 2024. These tablets will use LTPO panels that support ProMotion with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz, delivering smoother motion and more responsive interactions.

In 2026 Apple plans OLED versions of the iPad mini and iPad Air, which will feature LTPS matrices and will not support ProMotion. The iPad Air keeps a 10.9 inch display, while the iPad mini expands from 8.3 to 8.7 inches.

The 2027 update to the iPad Pro line is said to include an OLED display on the 12.9 inch model that uses BOE COE technology to cut power consumption by about 20 percent. This advancement could enable an under screen camera on the tablet.

There is no indication that base iPad models will move to OLED; it is likely Apple will continue using cheaper IPS panels for those devices.

ET News also mentions a 16 inch MacBook Pro with an OLED screen planned for 2025, followed by a 14 inch model in 2027. OLED options for the MacBook Air are expected in 2026 for 13 and 15 inch sizes. The general benefits cited include lighter, thinner laptops with improved energy efficiency, brighter displays, and higher contrast.

Earlier reports note that Apple has faced substantial challenges in developing its own 5G modem technology, which has influenced product timelines and integration strategies.
