Lovetoy, formerly known as A-Polymer, today offers a wide range of dildos designed to suit diverse tastes. Among them, the product called Cossack stands out as a record holder nicknamed Supergiant, notable for its arm-length reach of about 65 centimeters and a thick diameter of 10 centimeters. Another exclusive line is BestCock, featuring a spectrum from compact to large sizes and varieties.
The journey began with a simple trip to a store where the first vibrators were displayed. This spark inspired Vadim Kanunov, who would become the enterprise’s general director, to launch a local production of intimate goods.
As Kanunov explains, his background as a gynecologist gave him a clear view of women’s desires and needs. A biologist friend once remarked on the appearance of sex toys in a shop, which encouraged him to recreate a similar line. Old Soviet engines, power supplies, and adapters were repurposed to make the first vibrators, and early newspaper ads helped reveal strong demand. Production expanded as more sex toys were developed, transforming a small initiative into a broader operation.
Kanunov notes that the project used a variety of components, including parts from the defense industry, to build the early devices.
“Micromotors from gyroscopes in vintage Soviet warplanes formed the core of several models. Some units were retired or stolen, while others were repurposed. Tape recorders from the USSR yielded more micromotors, and control buttons were sourced from Rubin televisions. The key was to assemble the right combination in the right sequence,” Kanunov recalls.
Initially, the company contracted for phallus-shaped shells through a children’s toy factory. Over time, the demand shifted toward more realistic designs.
Experts from the Rubber Institute were brought in to collaborate on modern polymers that would later supply the production line; this partnership helped shape current offerings.
Today, Lovetoy produces tens of thousands of items each month, with the majority of raw materials sourced from Russia.
In pursuing a more self-reliant supply chain, the company previously sourced some components from foreign suppliers, such as polymers from Japan. Lately, most materials are manufactured domestically in Russia, with only select parts imported from China when necessary. The broader takeaway is a growing capability within the national chemical sector to support high-quality toy production, according to Kanunov.
I built my first sex machine myself
Another homegrown brand, LoveMachines based in Omsk, focuses on sex machines and claims the status of the world’s largest distributor of these devices and related accessories.
Their online catalog showcases a variety of configurations, including an Ottoman model which features a hollow seat housing a robotic mechanism with a dildo. Other designs include vertical machines suited for placement beside a bed and two-component devices known as Double Casanova. There are male simulators such as the Humble sex machine, designed to provide vacuum stimulation. The color palette is mostly black, though pink models exist as well.
LoveMachines maintains a showroom in Moscow where visitors can evaluate performance and select their preferred model. Rentals are also offered.
Sergei Ivanov, founder and president of the group that includes LoveMachines, notes that the first model emerged in 2007, with Ivanov assembling it himself.
“The venture began with a single adult shop in Omsk in 2002, a city with no similar businesses at the time. Demand for durable robotic devices grew from customers who wanted lifelike motion without fatigue, water, or food needs. After researching global options, it became clear that there was no such product at scale, and the push to create a robotic device that could replicate movement began,” Ivanov explains.
As demand rose, so did production.
By the end of 2023, LoveMachines reported an annual capacity of 10,000 units, with ambitions to reach 50,000. The manufacturing process relies on welding, turning, and milling equipment, complemented by laser cutting, with the assembled product finished by hand.
Nearly all components originate from Russia, with engines as the notable exception due to the absence of locally produced equivalents that meet the required standards. Ivanov notes that the country has faced pressures from international logistics and pricing, yet continues to explore export opportunities. A European quality certificate obtained in 2022 opens a path to broader markets, including Greece, China, and Thailand, as production scales up to meet demand.
Zoo motifs from Erasexa
Erasexa represents another Russian manufacturer of designer toys inspired by animal life. The catalog features products resembling animal genitalia and fantasy shapes such as tentacles.
For example, the homepage highlights a “Crocodile” model that mimics a reptile’s curled tail to stimulate the G-spot, complete with textured scales for heightened sensation. Another example is “Ghost Rider,” a black dildo with a skull-based base that includes bright orange eyes.
The assortment largely centers on dildos, though speakers note a range of masturbators for men as well. A red fox figure and a dog-themed design are among the positive-reviewed items.
As stated by a company representative, Erasexa aims to meet local preferences that people often keep private. Monthly output varies with customer demand, and all items are crafted by hand with finishes such as glow-in-the-dark effects or discharge features to add uniqueness. Details of the production process remain private. American-sourced materials ensure steady supply, and sanctions have not disrupted operations, according to the representative.
