DxOMark evaluates the camera performance of the iPhone 15 Pro

DxOMark experts published the latest results after testing the camera of the new iPhone 15 Pro. The device showed a high level of photo and video quality and set eight laboratory records, yet it did not claim the top spot in the global rankings.

The iPhone 15 Pro shares the same camera system as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The main practical difference is that the Pro Max adds a 5x periscope telephoto option, while the base Pro uses a 3x telephoto lens for zooming on subjects.

DxOMark notes that the iPhone 15 Pro excels in exposure metering, background blur control, texture noise balance, and natural skin tone rendering. It captures striking portraits and expansive landscapes, employing HDR to deliver bright, high-contrast results. Some drawbacks appear, including shadow noise, flare and ghosting artifacts, and a tendency toward reduced detail when shooting distant subjects.

In video mode, the iPhone 15 Pro also performed well, setting five DxOMark records. The phone demonstrates reliable exposure, vibrant color reproduction, quick and steady focus, minimal noise, and strong stabilization. HDR processing in video is applied with precision, yielding bright and defined footage.

Overall, the test results praise the iPhone 15 Pro for its camera capabilities but indicate it falls just short of being the world’s best. The device tied for second place in the overall ranking and shared first place in the price category with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, both scoring 154 points. The leader is the Huawei P60 Pro with 156 points.

Earlier, insiders revealed design details of the iPhone 16 Pro, adding context to Apple’s evolving camera strategy.
