Blizzard, the developer behind Diablo IV, has temporarily blocked the drop of ultra rare items in the game after players reported receiving them too frequently. The update appeared in an official forum post from the studio, explaining the temporary change and the reason behind it.
The issue was tied to a bug that unexpectedly increased the likelihood of ultra rare items appearing from Hellish Onslaught chests. The studio stated that while they work on a fix, ultra rare drops are disabled, preventing players from obtaining six of these items until the patch lands on Friday July 7. Community manager PezRadar, who communicates under a pseudonym, confirmed that other item drops from Hellsurge Chests will continue as usual. The update was shared to clarify the scope of the adjustment and its impact on loot balance during the hotfix window.
In late June, Diablo IV’s class designer revealed details about the game’s rarest unique items. It is noted that there are six ultra rare items in total, including the Doombringer sword, The Grandfather sword, Ring of Starless Skies ring, Melted Heart of Seliga amulet, Andariel’s Visage helmet, and Harlequin Crest helmet. All of these items are designed to drop from enemies at level 85 or higher and carry a power rating of 820, underscoring their status as endgame loot prized by players across North America and beyond.
Diablo IV launched on June 5, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, delivering cross‑generational play and a shared progression path that connects players across major platforms. The game’s launch was followed by ongoing updates and balance changes aimed at refining loot, loot drops, and endgame pacing to fit the evolving player base in North America and Canada.
Earlier communications from Blizzard indicated that the first major season for Diablo IV, named Plague Season, would begin on July 20, 2023, bringing new content, systems, and seasonal challenges to the community while maintaining a focus on fairness and predictable loot progression for players at all levels.
